Afro-textured hair can be sometimes hard to control or tame and sometimes feel overwhelming when dealing with it at home, the trick is not to stress we are here to help you along the way to having beautiful nourished afro hair.
Washing afro hair should be done around every seven days, once a week so go grab your calendars and pick your wash day any day any time just schedule it in the diary as afro-textured hair needs a little more time dedicated to it. Scalps are very important to keep clean and healthy as the hair follicles grow out of the scalp so to have gorgeous hair you first need a gorgeous scalp. Massaging your scalp daily with your fingertips is not only relaxing but encourages blood supply to your scalp to feed the hair follicle so then it produces healthy shiny hair.
Afro hair can tangle very easily so take your time and be gently when washing it, make sure all of the hair is flowing in the same direction so the hair has no excuse to knot itself up. Use a sulphate free shampoo always wash your twice as the first wash is the cleansing wash this wash should not lather up but the second wash will lather up slightly more. Massage the shampoo into the scalp using your fingertips to again massage your scalp to get any dirt lifted off the scalp rinse then repeat this method again trying to make sure to only squeeze the shampoo down the hair onto the ends. Conditioning time, pick a conditioner that is highly nourishing plus sulphate free, apply a good amount to hair again gently massaging into the scalp whilst at the same time separating the hair with your fingers or a very wide toothed comb, rinse the hair, gently squeeze the excess water out before putting the hair in a microfibre towel.
Time to feed thirsty hair, afro hair needs a lot of nourishment and oiling so once washed and taken out of the microfibre towel begin the moisture process, start by spraying a moisturising spray into the hair Twisted Sista 30 second curl spray is a good option for this as it contains coconut, almond oils and avocado to nourish those beautiful curls.
Next step apply a curl crème again Twisted Sista is a good option to try, pop a generous amount into the palms of your hands and in sections simply sandwich the hair in-between your palms and gently from root to tip slide the product down the hair. You can either on a low heat diffuse the hair or leave to dry naturally.
Once you have achieved the definition of curls you wish for its now time to keep them maintained until next wash day, sleeping on a silk pillow case or wearing a head wrap to bed will help keep the curls more defined and look less frizzy. A daily spritz and scalp massage of water mixed with aloe vera juice into the hair and onto the scalp to help reactivate the products put into the hair on wash day and help keep the scalp clean and healthy.
Afro-texture hair is more time consuming granted but my oh my is it worth it, here’s to happy healthy hair to be envious of.
