In the hair industry, we are seeing more and more clients decide to embrace their natural grey tones. I believe this trend was brought on by the lockdown, where many people were unable to go to the salon and cover up their gray hair. However, I am now helping people see that their natural silver highlights can be classy, elegant, and stunning, rather than old, boring, or dull.
Before the lockdown, I would have been met with resistance if I suggested this, but now people are more open-minded about grey hair than ever before. With more products being developed to enhance grey tones, it’s possible to make them shine brighter than ever.
When helping clients with their colour grow-out, it doesn’t have to mean growing out the whole head of colour. Instead, you can help them by expanding their colour journey by placing highlights and lowlights through the hair to disguise the global grow-out. This will create a tonal effect, and they may continue to have this method done forever more. It doesn’t mean you will lose a client by having colour work done – you will gain a more varied colour portfolio when dealing with clients with grey hair.
